We are committed to protecting your personal data in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and applicable global privacy laws.

2. Data We Collect
We collect only what is strictly necessary to provide the Alignu coaching experience. This includes:
Account Information
- Email address (for account creation and communication)
- Name (optional — used to personalize your coaching)
- Profile preferences and onboarding responses
Coaching & Usage Data
- Journal entries and reflections you write or record
- Coaching conversation history
- Wheel of Life assessments and goal data
- Daily challenge responses and progress markers
- Voice recordings (transcribed locally where possible; deleted after processing)
Technical Data
- Device type and operating system (for compatibility)
- App version and crash reports (anonymized)
- Aggregate usage statistics (no individual tracking)
We do not collect: payment card details (handled securely by Apple/Google), precise location data, contacts, camera access beyond voice input, or any data you have not explicitly provided.
3. How We Use Your Data
We use the data you provide solely to:
- Deliver and improve your personalized AI coaching experience
- Generate your daily prompts, reflections, and challenges
- Maintain continuity across coaching sessions (your coach "remembers" you)
- Provide Wheel of Life tracking and goal mapping
- Send essential service communications (account notices, security alerts)
- Diagnose technical issues and improve app stability
We will never use your personal coaching data to train AI models shared with other users without your explicit, informed consent.
4. Data Security & Encryption
Protecting your most personal reflections is our highest technical priority.
- Encryption at rest: All data stored in our systems is encrypted using AES-256 encryption.
- Encryption in transit: All communications between the app and our servers use TLS 1.3 (HTTPS only).
- Access controls: Access to user data is strictly limited to essential engineering personnel on a need-to-know basis, with full audit logging.
- Infrastructure: We use SOC 2-compliant cloud infrastructure with regular security audits.
- Breach response: In the unlikely event of a data breach, we will notify affected users within 72 hours in accordance with GDPR requirements.
Your journal entries, coaching conversations, and personal reflections are treated as the most sensitive category of data we hold. They are encrypted, never read by employees without your explicit support request, and never used for advertising purposes.
5. No Third-Party Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal data with third parties for any commercial purpose — ever. Full stop.
Limited data sharing occurs only in these narrow circumstances:
- Service providers: Trusted infrastructure partners (cloud hosting, AI processing) who are contractually bound to GDPR-compliant data processing agreements and cannot use your data for their own purposes.
- Legal requirements: If compelled by valid legal process (court order, law enforcement request), we will notify you first wherever legally permitted, challenge overbroad requests, and provide only the minimum data required.
- Business transfer: In the event of a merger or acquisition, you will be notified in advance, and your rights under this policy will be preserved or you will have the right to delete your account.
We do not share data with advertisers, data brokers, analytics companies with personal tracking, social media platforms, or any other third party for marketing purposes.
6. Your GDPR Rights
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have the following rights under the GDPR:
- Right of access: Request a copy of all personal data we hold about you.
- Right to rectification: Correct inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
- Right to erasure ("right to be forgotten"): Request deletion of your personal data.
- Right to data portability: Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Right to restriction: Request that we limit how we process your data.
- Right to object: Object to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Right to withdraw consent: Withdraw any consent you have given at any time.

Legal Basis for Processing
We process your data on the following legal bases: (a) performance of a contract — to deliver the services you signed up for; (b) legitimate interests — to maintain service security and prevent fraud; (c) consent — for optional features and communications you have specifically opted into.
7. Right to Delete Your Data
You have the absolute right to delete your account and all associated data at any time.
How to Delete Your Data
- In-app: Go to Settings → Account → Delete Account. All your data will be permanently deleted within 30 days.
- By email: Send a deletion request to privacy@alignu.net with the subject line "Data Deletion Request."
What Happens After Deletion
- Your account, profile, coaching history, journal entries, and all personal data will be permanently deleted from our active systems within 30 days.
- Anonymized, non-identifiable aggregate statistics (e.g., "X% of users found feature Y useful") may be retained.
- Encrypted backup copies are purged on a rolling 90-day cycle.
- Subscription billing is managed by Apple/Google — you must also cancel your subscription through the relevant App Store.
Deletion is permanent and irreversible. We do not keep shadow copies, sell data before deletion, or retain your personal coaching content in any form after deletion is complete.
8. Data Retention
We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. Specifically:
- Active account data is retained for the duration of your subscription plus 90 days.
- After account deletion, personal data is removed from active systems within 30 days and from backups within 90 days.
- Anonymized usage data may be retained indefinitely for product improvement purposes.
9. Children's Privacy
Alignu is designed for adults and is not intended for users under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us immediately at privacy@alignu.net and we will delete it promptly.
10. Analytics
We use Plausible Analytics — a privacy-first, GDPR-compliant analytics tool that does not use cookies, does not track individual users across sessions, and does not collect personal data. Plausible provides aggregate statistics (page views, session counts) that help us understand how the product is used without compromising your privacy.
We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any advertising-based tracking technology.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will:
- Update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
- Notify you via email and in-app notification for material changes.
- Give you at least 30 days' notice before significant changes take effect.
Your continued use of Alignu after the effective date of changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
